"Board Meetings" Get Literal with Bulletin, Dry Erase, and Chalk Boards

Posted on 06/19/14 in Office Space
Board MeetingWhen you have big ideas, sometimes you need somewhere big to display them. Depending on your office culture, your primary method of communication might be email, phone, or in-person meetings, but nothing beats the aesthetic appeal of a communal board.

In your dynamic workplace, ample erasable or bulletin boards are fun and distinctive surfaces on which to hash out ideas without committing them to paper. By creating a place for people to write or post items for everyone to see, you create a living workplace forum that displays the working process of your team.

Dry Erase Boards

Often used in classrooms, dry erase boards are ideal for environments where ideas flow quickly. Some of the ways they can be used in an office include:

  • Brainstorming sessions. Thanks to their highly visible and easily erasable surfaces, dry erase boards allow creative and technical types alike to quickly scribble out concepts and images (and erase those they decide not to use).
  • Task lists. Posting the to-do lists of groups or individuals provides accountability; everyone knows what everyone else is working on.
  • Message boards. Official announcements, words of encouragement, and "quotes of the day" can all be delivered via dry erase board.

Chalk Boards

A schoolhouse classic, chalkboards evoke memories of multiplication tables and vocabulary lessons. However, they can be incorporated into modern workplaces for utilitarian or artistic purposes, including:

  • Calendars. Like dry erase boards, chalkboards are easily erasable, meaning you can use the same grid over and over again.
  • Sidewalk displays. Businesses small and large can enlist the services of a chalkboard artist to create colorful, welcoming signs that invite customers in.

Bulletin Boards
When it comes to design and utility, bulletin boards are probably the most versatile of this signage trifecta. Thanks to their multidimensional qualities, they provide a dynamic focal point for common office areas and can perform various functions, such as:

  • Announcements. Paper copies of official notices from leadership or Human Resources are commonly posted on bulletin boards.
  • Professional development. If your company encourages employees to pursue professional development via classes, workshops, seminars, or conferences, display them here.
  • Non-work-related. Employers and employees can post fliers for upcoming events that might be of interest to their colleagues, like birthdays or company picnics.

Whatever your primary mode of communication with staff, incorporating a dry erase board, bulletin board, or chalkboard into your office can enhance the work environment in a multitude of ways. Try one or all of them to help your team strategize, celebrate, and collaborate more effectively.
