A Breath of Fresh Air: Mints for Business Meetings

Posted on 05/08/14 in Branded Sweets
Bad BreathHave you ever been in a business meeting and noticed the other person (or group of people) looking away? If so, did you assume they just weren't interested in the presentation? There's another explanation that people often overlook - bad breath. Maybe it was something you ate for lunch or maybe it's been several hours since you brushed your teeth. Either way, it's important to remedy the situation immediately because no one wants bad breath to put off colleagues, managers, or clients. Not to mention, bad breath can be extremely embarrassing and stressful.

Common Causes of Bad Breath

Before looking for a solution, it's helpful to determine the underlying problem. In most cases, bad breath is caused by not brushing and flossing consistently. Brush and floss twice a day to remove bacteria, sugar, and food particles. Another important element of dental hygiene is to visit the dentist every six months for a cleaning and checkup.

If your teeth and gums are healthy, maybe it's your diet. Garlic and onions are some one of the most common causes, but high intakes of dairy and sugar, as well as dehydration, can also play a role. Similarly, if you're on a low carb diet, then ketosis can lead to bad breath.

If these aren't the problem, then it's time to see a doctor. Acid reflux, as well as infections of the tonsils or sinus cavities, is a potentially related medical cause that requires assessment. Your doctor can run tests and prescribe the necessary medication to get these issues under control. In rare cases, bad breath is caused by a serious condition, such as cancer of the throat. Although uncommon, it's a good idea to be cautious and not ignore the signs. A doctor's appointment can determine the cause and proper treatment.

Remedies for Bad Breath

After identifying the underlying problem, it's time to pick the right solution. If dental hygiene is the issue, then start brushing your teeth after every meal and flossing daily. For cases of dry mouth, drinking plenty of water is an effective solution. When food is the culprit, there are two choices. The first is giving up the food that's causing bad breath. Obviously, nobody wants to give up their favorite foods, so a more practical solution is to chew mints or gum after the meal. Similarly, you can chew parsley after a meal or rinse your mouth with mouthwash.
